Architecture for Heritage 2023 Edition
Contemporary Ruins
The workshop will be conducted in collaboration with Monacelli Italy and it will be oriented to the design of a training and research center dedicated to the neuro-sciences in San Bartolomeo. Lying on the slopes of the Marinello hill, close to the Tevere River valley, San Bartolomeo is located in the complex of the larger Castle of Solfagnano: a marvel of the 12th century with important eighteenth-century contaminations, which still captures the visitor's heart for its monumental magnificence. Some of the characteristic elements of one of the most fascinating places in the central part of Italy are the mighty bulwarks containing an amazing garden, bridges and paths that bring to a monumental park. In close contact with the most iconic image of Medieval Italy, with the city of Assisi and San Francesco and the amazing cities of Gubbio and Perugia - students will have the opportunity to deal with a site with a deep historical connotation, but that at the same time requires a strong contemporary intervention aimed - like it is - to the future.
