Architecture for Fashion

Brief

Architecture is a privileged tool of those brands that are characterized by a high positioning and that - in addition to the quality of their products - need to nurture an imagery made of prestige, style and refinement. From showrooms to stores, fashion needs architects as much as stylists, photographers and modelers.

For these reasons, the course in Architecture for Fashion was created, with the aim of training designers capable of interpreting the identity of a brand to transform it into architectural space, transferring those meanings of exclusivity, luxury and elegance from the garment to the environment deputed to exhibit it.

By delving into the needs of the fashion world, designers will acquire spendable skills in the entire luxury sector, gaining familiarity with a market segment characterized by timeless appeal and continuous and rewarding employment opportunities.

Through the course, participants will delve into the technical and compositional issues of design in the service of fashion, according to a course composed of 88 hours of frontal teaching, 32 hours of workshop and numerous contributions by renowned professionals. At the end of the course, students will also be guaranteed a training internship within some of the most prestigious architectural firms on the international scene.

Bodies in Space

Design workshop

Francesca Singer / SANAA

The workshop will provide a practical opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired throughout the other teaching modules, challenging students with the design of the first cU cancellato Uniform concept store in Milan. Under the tutorship of Francesca Singer of SANAA, participants will be asked to translate into architecture the identity of an avant-garde brand whose research moves beyond conventional distinctions of gender and places the body at the very center of its approach.

The body itself will become the starting point of the project: a body that wears, moves through, observes and measures space. The concept store will therefore be conceived not simply as a retail environment, but as a place capable of establishing a relationship between people, garments and architecture, using proportions, circulation, materials, light and display elements to create an experience consistent with the identity of the brand.

Starting from these premises, students will be asked to imagine a new space for contemporary fashion, where display, encounter and product narrative contribute to the definition of a single architectural concept. The workshop will thus investigate architecture as an extension of a brand’s identity and, at the same time, as a device capable of welcoming different bodies and ways of inhabiting space, translating into architecture the values of freedom, fluidity and experimentation that characterize the research of cU cancellato Uniform.

Construction workshop

Construction is a fundamental step in architecture. For this reason, YACademy offers its students the opportunity to participate in the process of producing their own ideas. Thus, the students will gain practical experience on construction sites and, above all, the authorship of projects built for excellent commissions, destined for a major media echo and capable of defining a turning point in their professional career.

Placement

At the end of teaching modules and workshop, YACademy’s Placement office will guarantee every student an internship or collaboration proposal in one of our partner studios.
