Architecture exists solely as a discipline in service of human beings. In every era and in every context, people deserve dignity and beauty. Placing the human being at the center of architecture gives the discipline a significance equal to the value of the lives it is meant to serve. Architects are entrusted with a mission that profoundly affects individuals and communities alike.

Architecture is an irreversible act of transformation of the planet’s resources. The construction sector alone accounts for approximately 40% of global CO₂ emissions. In light of the challenges posed by the Anthropocene, sustainability has become an essential requirement of contemporary architecture, on par with structural integrity and safety standards.

Architecture is a powerful instrument of social progress. No architectural phenomenon can be understood outside the context of its impact on the environment and the community in which it exists. Architects therefore carry a collective responsibility and play a fundamental role in advancing equity, rights, and social well-being.

Though not always codified or scientifically standardized, historical building traditions are the result of a long accumulation of collective intelligence and experience, which continue to offer valuable insights today. In a time that must learn to reduce the weight of its actions, innovation must go hand in hand with an understanding of historical – whether modest or vernacular – practices, shaping a future where technology and memory coexist in dialogue.

With students and faculty from over 70 different countries, Yacademy strongly supports an international approach to education.
