Born in Porto in 1952, he is a Portuguese architect and one of the most influential figures in the contemporary architectural landscape. After collaborating with Álvaro Siza between 1975 and 1979, he founded his own practice in 1980. Alongside his professional activity, he has maintained a strong academic commitment at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto, where he first served as an assistant and later as a professor, in addition to numerous experiences as a visiting professor at leading international institutions. His work has been widely published and exhibited worldwide. Throughout his career, he has received some of the most prestigious international awards, including the Pritzker Prize, the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale, and the Praemium Imperiale, establishing himself as one of the most authoritative voices in contemporary architecture.
