João Luís Carrilho da Graça
Carrilho da Graça Arquitectos
Born in Portugal in 1952, he is an architect since 1977, and lives and works in Lisbon. He has been awarded numerous prizes and distinctions, among which the Pessoa Award (2008), Piranesi Award - Prix De Rome (2010), and the Grand Cross of the Order of the Public Instruction of the Portuguese Republic (2019). He was nominated and a finalist for the Mies van der Rohe Award for several years. He participated in the Portuguese official representation to the 12th,13th and 16th Venice Architecture Biennales and on the main exhibition of the 15th Biennale. He lectured at the University of Lisbon, Universidade Autonoma de Lisboa, University of Évora, University of Navarra, Cornell University. Currently, he is visiting professor at the Leon Battista Alberti Unesco Chair in the Mantova Campus of the Politecnico di Milano and at the Haute École du Paysage, d'Ingénierie et d'Architecture of Genève. Next year, he will be visiting professor of the Italian Swiss University - Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio. He was also awarded the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa by the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon.
