Keiichiro Sako
SAKO Architects
Keiichiro Sako completed his master’s degree in architecture at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1996, after which he refined his craft at Riken Yamamoto & Field Shop. In 2004, he established SAKO Architects in Beijing, China, and served as a visiting scholar at Columbia University that same year. He later expanded his practice to Japan, founding offices in Tokyo and Fukuoka. From the outset of his career, Sako has advocated the concept of “scaling units,” an approach that arranges box-like modular elements into dynamic configurations̶a hallmark of CUBE TUBE in Jinhua and BUMPS in Beijing. His entire portfolio further encompasses projects such as ZIGZAG in Tianjin, VERTICAL RAINBOW in Tokyo, and KALEIDOSCOPE in Tianshui, all of which explore architecture’s potential through vibrant colors and geometric innovations. His interior designs, including KIDS REPUBLIC in Beijing and ROMANTICISM in Hangzhou, likewise create immersive environments that encourage stimulating reflection. Across all of his work, Sako establishes a clear “theme” that shapes both concept and execution, continuously expanding the expressive and spatial frontiers of contemporary architecture.
