Born in 1937, Renzo Piano is an Italian architect. He is considered one of the most influential, prolific and internationally active architects of the 20th and 21st centuries, winner of numerous awards, including the Pritzker Prize presented to him by US President Bill Clinton at the White House in 1998 and the AIA Gold Medal in 2008. In 2006 he became the first Italian included by Time in the Time 100, the list of the 100 most influential personalities in the world, as well as in the list of the ten most important people in the Arts and Entertainment sector. Since 30 August 2013 he has been a life senator of the Italian Republic, upon appointment by President Giorgio Napolitano.
